On 28 October 2015, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, and the Representative Office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in Hong Kong and Macao co-hosted a seminar in Hong Kong entitled “Internet-Plus Era: How to Secure the Enterprises’ Interest”. Ms. Yuan Shani, the CEO of HKGCC, Mr. Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CIETAC, Mr. Yang Ping’An, the Chief Representative of CCPIT Representative Office in Hong Kong and Macao attended the seminar and gave speeches. More than 60 members and representatives of the afore-mentioned institutions as well as legal professionals participated in the seminar.
Along with the rapid development of e-commerce, enterprises tend to promote their products and business images online. There is a growing need for establishing and protecting internet branding. In the meantime, the frequent disputes in e-commerce and internet finance are damaging the operation and development of enterprises, which receive keen attention of business operators. The seminar focused on the dispute resolution in the Internet-Plus era, discussing the means of effectively protecting the interests of enterprises through domain name dispute resolution mechanism. It also explored how to resolve e-commerce disputes as well as commercial disputes by taking advantage of new technologies under the new economic development in order to provide sound and effective legal protection for enterprises. Ms. Liang Hua, the Secretary General of CIETAC Online Dispute Resolution Center (ODRC), Mr. Lian Yunze, attorney from Hylands Law Firm, Ms.Qiao Shasha, CIETAC ODRC case manager, and Ms. Liu Yuping, attorney from Hylands Law Firm respectively gave successful presentations on “CIETAC Domain Name Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Online Dispute Resolution Services”, “Rights in Domain Name Disputes”, “CIETAC Online Arbitration Procedure”, and “Questions in Promoting the Enterprises’ Brands via Trademark Protection under the Internet-Plus Era”, etc. The presentations met the needs of the enterprises in practice and attracted lots of specific questions in the Q&A session. The experts offered their professional advice and shared their experience with the attendees.
The seminar concluded successfully. Ms. Yuan Shani, CEO of HKGCC expressed her gratitude to CIETAC Vice Chairman Mr. Yu Jianlong, and Mr. Yang Png’An, Chief Representative of CCPIT Representative Office in Hong Kong and Macao. She also suggested that the organizations host more activities on the relevant topics in order to satisfy the interests of member enterprises of the four major commercial chambers and federations of Hong Kong.
